Course Description

Structured didactic and open discussion of a range of activities conducive to improved understanding of and comfort with working with people with various physical disabilities geared for mental health professionals (Core Functions: Screening, Intake, Orientation, Assessment, Treatment Planning, Counseling, Case Management, Crisis Intervention, Patient Education, Referral, Reports and Record Keeping, Consultation with Other Professionals)

Learning Objectives

1. Review established methods of interaction and etiquette for conversing with and helping people with disabilities.

2. Describe situational factors which enhance the helping relationship.

3. Define and enumerate empowering interaction styles for patients with disabilities.
